In Mandrare River Camp, you learn the traditional methods of Antandroy to survive in the spiny forest. Antandroy is an ethnic group from South of Madagascar and means “those who live in spines”. After this, making fire, using indigenous plants and finding water and shelter won’t have any secrets for you. After a “Bug walk”, you have the opportunity to collect colorful beetles and crickets and enjoy a scavenger hunts in the camp grounds. Like a real Antandroy, you learn to make your own slingshot and target practice, or you learn traditional weaving and beadwork. Local children will love to invite your kids joining them for soccer or androvo games, a traditional Malagasy game from the region.

In Manafiafy Beach, your kids will discover the diversity of Madagascar’s insects, crabs, plants and other creepy crawlies during a trail. Then, you explore the rainforest looking for weird and wonderful nocturnal creatures. Then, local fishermen transport you in traditional ‘pirogue’ (hand-carved wooden canoe) on the sheltered bay in front of the Lodge. If you are lucky, you can even spot humpback whale and dolphin from the whale tower, from mid-June to November)
